'Her World, Her Rules' initiative set to soar even higher in 2025

    2 min to read

One of FIBA's most successful grassroots projects is going from strength to strength, with 2025 applications due by March 10.

MIES (Switzerland) - FIBA's highly successful Her World, Her Rules (HWHR) program is poised to make an even bigger impact in 2025 after National Federations were encouraged to make applications for the latest funding round of the grassroots initiative. FIBA is once again providing support for those Federations interested in designing and undertaking projects that support its mission to create awareness and foster basketball development for girls and women globally. This includes sustainably growing participation by engaging school-aged girls (6-15 years old) through basketball activities. This has helped National Federations strive to secure the successful development of women's basketball in their own respective countries.

In uniting all development programs under one name and brand, FIBA and National Federations have been able to amplify the exposure of women's basketball, attract more media attention, and ultimately increase the participation of girls in the sport.

An essential component of FIBA's strategic priority, Women In Basketball, the HWHR initiative has already seen more than 180,000 girls positively impacted by the campaign across all five FIBA regions globally. The participants have taken part in a range of activities that have promoted not only opportunities within basketball but also healthy lifestyles and the benefits of playing the sport in general. National Federations have also been instrumental in delivering HWHR activities, which:

    • Disseminate the importance of hard work, discipline, teamwork and fair play via the use of models.

    • Inspire girls to play basketball while continuing their studies (pursuing a dual career).

    • Empower girls and tackle problems such as gender inequality and discrimination.

Since its inception in 2018, a total of 133 National Federations around the world have received funding for their HWHR projects and activations. This has made HWHRs one of FIBA's most recognized initiatives in the sport and one of the most impactful in women’s basketball globally.

Her World Her Rules created great momentum for us, and we are now trying to keep up with the demand, which has exceeded our expectations.

Rickie Vora, Vanuatu Basketball Federation Development Officer

FIBA is dedicated to growing the number of girls who engage with HWHR - something that will guarantee the initiative's legacy is strengthened and enriched. Consequently, National Federations located in Africa, the Americas, Asia and Oceania will be chosen for the HWHR program in 2025 and receive financial support. Selection will be based on the quality of proposals and the anticipated impact on each Federation’s broader women's basketball strategy.

In Europe, where Her World, Her Rules was originally launched, the program is already into a two-year funding cycle, which will conclude during the middle of 2026.
