In a bid to strengthen the development of basketball on the continent, FIBA Africa has launched a series of ‘FIBA National Youth Camps’. Guinea and Mauritius were the inaugural hosts of these camps, launching a programme designed to discover new talent and foster the growth of local players and coaches.
The ‘FIBA National Youth Camps’ in 2022 and the main objective of these camps is to provide a platform for National Federations to identify emerging talent and establish solid development programmes.
Supervised by expert coaches from FIBA and the NBA, each camp brings together around 30 to 40 girls and boys aged 14 to 18.
The first three days are devoted to coach training, with the following days devoted to developing the participating players.
At the end of each ‘FIBA national youth camp’, the best players are invited to take part in a ‘regional youth camp’.
From there, selected players participate in the ‘Basketball Without Borders’ programme.
FIBA Africa and NBA Africa are the leaders of these camps. The collaboration of these big names in basketball aims to train the next generation of African basketball talent.
