About Mini Basketball:
The FIBA Foundation Mini Basketball programme is a global Basketball For Good initiative aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of children aged 5-12 and combating physical inactivity and childhood obesity. It is an inclusive basketball movement for girls and boys and their parents, using fun, game-based learning.
The Minibasket Forum
This event, organised by the FIBA Regional Office for Africa with the support of the FIBA Foundation, welcomes over 300 children aged between 5 and 12 each year, along with around 20 delegates from several different countries and around 50 local coaches.
Objectives
With the fundamental aims of training coaches, promoting mini basketball in Africa and creating a positive and lasting experience for the young participants to keep them in the basketball community, this programme guarantees an exciting and engaging journey.
In line with the principles of Basketball for Good, this programme also aligns with FIBA's three key strategies: Expanding the FIBA Community, Empowering National Federations and Promoting Women in Basketball.
The FIBA Foundation is the social and heritage arm of FIBA that addresses the role of sport, in particular basketball, in society by preserving and promoting the values and cultural heritage of basketball. This forum aims to enlighten coaches on the implementation of mini-basketball.
Children are given the tools and specific methodology to stimulate their interest in the discipline, while instilling important basketball-related values in coaches and players.
