Oman sets the scene for long-term success with FIBA Plus support

    Short Read

The future of the sport in the Gulf State is looking brighter than ever.

MUSCAT (Oman) - The Oman Basketball Association (OBA) has taken a leap forward in the evolution of the sport for their country by harnessing the assistance offered as part of FIBA's global development program - FIBA Plus.

The organization has received specialist FIBA Plus Strategic Planning Support in a move that is set to lay the foundations to take basketball to the next level in the country.

The OBA is tapping into the program and the expert guidance on offer to build its skills and knowledge capacity. That is vital as it gets set to embark on the task of designing and implementing a fully-fledged strategic plan which will stretch from 2026 and beyond.

The workshop in Muscat was attended by the OBA, the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Youth, plus the Oman Olympic Committee

But before that can happen, the focus during this current critical period is building the right structures in the areas of governance, sport development and marketing to give themselves the best possible chance of future success.

Still in the early stages of what is considered to be a hugely important journey, the recent FIBA Plus workshop in Muscat marked a key milestone.

With the guidance of FIBA experts, the OBA leadership worked through its core priorities; defining clear roles, identifying development pathways, and shaping a more effective promotional approach for the sport.

Importantly, the workshop was also attended by representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, who not only participated, but actively contributed to the discussions.

This reflected the strong institutional support for the OBA's development journey and especially since stakeholders from the Oman Olympic Committee also joined the process.

The Oman Basketball Association received guidance from FIBA experts during their Strategic Planning Support workshop.

This collaborative effort to elevate basketball included one-on-one interviews with OBA leaders, while there was also a gathering of community input and feedback via surveys of players, coaches, referees, and the fans.

With this early groundwork now in place and with high-level backing for basketball evident, Oman is setting the stage for long-term success after taking these hugely valuable steps with FIBA Plus.
