MIES (Switzerland) - The first FIBA Plus workshop of 2025 is in the books, and it was the Slovak Basketball Association that successfully leveraged the expertise on offer to help shape a new strategic plan that is primed to accelerate the growth of the sport.

The four-day workshop, which was focused on Strategic Planning Support, took place between January 16 and 19. Facilitated in person, it involved a collaborative team of nearly 20 representatives from FIBA and the Slovak Basketball Association (SBA). FIBA Plus assists National Federations in developing strategies to enhance their ability to organize, professionalize and commercialize basketball activities and offers planning and implementation support to all members. FIBA's team of experts apply their knowledge to tailor support to the specific requirements of each participating National Federation. It is also a key element of FIBA's strategic priority to Empower National Federations. Before the workshop, consultations were conducted by FIBA, and these findings were successfully used to fuel the initial discussions. They also served to help with the direction the SBA decided to take for its strategic plan, which is dedicated to growing the game of basketball in Slovakia.

The workshop covered a number of areas and established key goals, which ranged from strengthening governance and operations to the development of the sport of basketball itself.

Michal Ondrus, President of the Slovak Basketball Association, expressed his satisfaction with the FIBA Plus workshop.

We had four productive days of workshops with the FIBA team, and significant progress has been made. I am pleased with our advancements in every area.

Michal Ondrus, President of the Slovak Basketball Association

He continued, "With FIBA as a strong partner, we have received invaluable support. On behalf of our Federation, I extend my gratitude for their trust and excellent cooperation."

Andrej Kuffa, Slovak Basketball Association Secretary General, added: "FIBA Plus was very helpful because even though we as a Federation knew our goals, it has helped us to put more structure into our strategy. We identified goals and objectives and started drafting action plans - but the most helpful elements were the actual experiences shared by FIBA."

National Federations are encouraged to reach out for assistance in joining the program, taking note of its excellent track record and the many Federations worldwide who have already expressed their delight at the results. FIBA
