MEXICO CITY (Mexico) - The Asociacion Deportiva Mexicana de Basquetbol A.C (ADEMEBA) is building for future success with the assistance of FIBA's global development program - FIBA Plus.
ADEMEBA has tapped into the dedicated Strategic Planning Support expertise that is available as part of the initiative. This has been central to positively shaping a new plan of action that will be launched to further elevate the sport in the country.
Mexico's women's team is currently competing in the FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2025. They previously hosted the tournament in 2023. More recently, Mexico also hosted one of the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 Pre-Qualifying Tournaments, which took place for the first time in 2024. Looking ahead, Mexico will serve as the host for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Americas Pre-Qualifiers this August.
FIBA Plus assists National Federations in developing strategies to enhance their ability to organize, professionalize and commercialize basketball activities and offers planning and implementation support to all members.
FIBA's team of specialists also apply their knowledge to tailor their support to the specific requirements of each participating National Federation. It is also a key element of FIBA's strategic priority to Empower National Federations.
Taking place in Mexico City, the FIBA Plus workshop was attended by multiple members of ADEMEBA. With stakeholders having also been consulted, the collaborative activities and discussions resulted in plenty of positive outcomes.
Not least, the Federation has been able to finalize and approve its action plan - something which marks an important step as it now confirms their readiness for both long-term development and strategic growth.
ADEMEBA has provided excellent feedback on the FIBA Plus experience, explaining how the partnership will help implement best practices, raise management standards, and reinforce the national basketball structure, thereby putting Mexican talent at the heart of the project. It was also clear that a fusion of the vision, combined with plenty of valuable teamwork underpinned by FIBA Plus support, has now made ADEMEBA confident of building a stronger and even more inclusive game, with greater international reach.
