FIBA Hall of Famers support WABC coach development project on preparing today's players for the future game

    Short Read

The World Association of Basketball Coaches (WABC) is offering a new resource to support coaches at all levels of the game.

MIES (Switzerland) - The World Association of Basketball Coaches (WABC) has leveraged the expertise of some iconic names in the sport to support and deliver an exciting development project, 'Preparing Today's Players for the Future Game'.

Tasked with enhancing the game's quality by improving the skills of those who teach it, the WABC's latest initiative for the global basketball coaching community includes valuable insight from FIBA Hall of Fame trio, Dirk Nowitzki, Natalia Hejkova and Mike Krzyzewski.

The WABC development project consists of a series of nine videos that have been designed as a comprehensive and valuable resource for basketball coaches worldwide and operating at all levels.

Featuring an introduction, interviews with leading coaches, an outline of key teaching points, demonstrations on how to coach each skill, as well as FIBA game footage showcasing the skills and concepts in action.

Dirk Nowitzki will soon be inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026 in an enshrinement ceremony on April 21 in Berlin. A hoops icon, Nowitzki was MVP of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2002 and EuroBasket 2005. Representing Germany in FIBA competitions for two decades, he was also a perennial NBA All-Star, NBA MVP and champion.

Hejkova signed off her EuroLeague Women career with a staggering sixth title last year, having been inducted to the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2019 and been a trailblazer in the women's game, coaching for four decades.

Mike 'Coach K' Krzyzewski was enshrined in 2025 in recognition of his monumental impact on international basketball, including three Olympic gold medals and two FIBA World Cup titles (2010, 2014) as Team USA head coach. The project has three distinct objectives, including an emphasis on offering the support and guidance needed for the community to successfully coach Generation Z.

This will be delivered by providing a clear reflection and understanding of current concepts, styles of play and themes - all of which have emerged and evolved during recent times. Perhaps most critically, the video materials for the 'Preparing Today's Players for the Future Game' project effectively overlay and supplement existing WABC Coaching Courses and resources.
