PORT MORESBY (Papua New Guinea) – FIBA and the Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea (BFPNG) have joined forces for strategic basketball growth and development in Papua New Guinea to support the 11 million plus population.

FIBA Plus is a key initiative designed to Empower National Federations by providing tailored support and resources to enhance their organisational capabilities. This program aligns with FIBA's broader strategic priorities by fostering sustainable development and promoting the growth of basketball globally.

By providing tailored support and resources, we help them achieve their goals and elevate the sport within their countries."

BFPNG is one of the few countries among 188 FIBA Member Federations to receive this assistance this year, underscoring the significance of this initiative.

The three-day workshop successfully developed a comprehensive strategic plan with key stakeholders to set the direction for basketball in the country. Numerous stakeholder consultations and reviews of key documents were conducted over the past few months. These efforts culminated in a clear set of goals and actionable items.

BFPNG President David Peter further stated that the plan must reflect the development needs and aspirations of BFPNG, considering its unique opportunities and challenges.

"We cannot do everything; we must focus on a few key areas based on a shared and agreed vision.”
