    Dr Peter Harcourt AM, Chair of the FIBA Medical Commission and a key figure in global basketball health and integrity, has been honoured with induction into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.

    GOLD COAST (Australia) - FIBA extends its heartfelt congratulations to Dr Peter Harcourt AM, who was recently inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in recognition of his contribution to sports medicine and athlete welfare across more than four decades.

    The honour reflects a career defined by global leadership, integrity, and a deep commitment to ensuring that sport remains safe, fair, and athlete‑centred.

    Dr Harcourt, who serves as Chair of the FIBA Medical Commission, has long been regarded as one of the world's foremost experts in sports medicine. His influence spans multiple international sporting bodies, including the Commonwealth Games Federation, WADA, and several Olympic and Commonwealth Games campaigns. His leadership has also been central to the medical strategy and delivery at numerous FIBA Basketball World Cups, and has shaped medical policy, anti‑doping frameworks, and athlete‑care standards, elevating the systems that protect athletes at every level of competition.

    Within FIBA, Dr Harcourt has been a driving force behind the evolution of global medical standards in basketball. His leadership has strengthened education pathways for National Federations, advanced research and innovation in athlete health, and reinforced FIBA’s commitment to integrity and wellbeing across all competitions. His steady guidance has ensured that basketball continues to prioritise the safety and long‑term health of its players, from grassroots to elite international events.

    Dr Harcourt also played a pivotal role in the development of numerous protocols during the Covid‑19 pandemic, enabling basketball to safely return to play and positioning FIBA as a leader in global return‑to‑sport efforts.

    Reflecting on the honour, Dr Harcourt said the recognition was both humbling and deeply meaningful.
