MUNICH (Germany) - Titos Komninos has sadly passed away at the age of 81.
Komninos, a member of the FIBA Europe Finance Commission since 2010, devoted many years to the sport with steadfast commitment, both during his tenure and beyond.
FIBA Europe President Jorge Garbajosa said: "It didn't take long to feel the immense value of Titos and the weight of his contributions within the Finance Commission. His insights and leadership were instrumental in guiding our decisions and advancing the sport we love. Titos was not only a respected mentor to many but also a true advocate for basketball on and off the court."
"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Titos Komninos during this difficult time," said FIBA Executive Director Europe Kamil Novak. "From day one, Titos was invaluable. He opened doors, forged connections, and championed basketball with a passion that has left a lasting impact on our community.
"His extensive experience as a top executive made him a valuable member of the Finance Commission, and his insights, ideas and expertise played a significant role within the FIBA Family. He will be sorely missed, but his legacy will live on."
Komninos had also been a board member of Turkish club Anadolu Efes, as well as being involved in the Organizing Committee for the 2004 Olympic Games that were held in Athens, Greece.
