TIME-OUT 3.0 tip-off features 44 participants

MUNICH (Germany) - The third edition of the TIME-OUT program officially began earlier this month with a four-day workshop taking place in Newcastle, England.
TIME-OUT 3.0 - in partnership with Northumbria University - is the latest instalment of the project that focuses on life after basketball; targeting players coming towards the end of their playing careers or already having retired, by opening new pathways and opportunities through their acquired skills and learning.
There are 44 participating players - representing 28 different nationalities - including recent Paris Olympic medallists Valeriane Ayayi of France, Netherlands' Arvin Slagter and Vega Gimeno of Spain.

They will aim to follow on from the 128 previous participants that have successfully completed the program over the first two editions.
FIBA Europe President Jorge Garbajosa and FIBA Executive Director Europe Kamil Novak both gave opening words to welcome the participants via Zoom, to mark the launch of the workshop.
"The TIME-OUT program ensures that the skills and experiences gained as athletes are not just left behind but are carried forward into new careers and opportunities," commented Mr Garbajosa.
"As someone who transitioned from the court to a new role in leadership, I understand the challenges that come with this change – and I'm sure that TIME-OUT will help with this transition."
The four-day workshop included seminars focused on the modules of Leadership and Management, as well as interactive sessions led by FIBA Expert Consultant Geoff Wilson.
The group also competed in a 3x3 challenge as well as enjoying visits to two of the cities professional sports teams in football club Newcastle United and rugby union side Newcastle Falcons.
Online learning will commence over the coming months before the next workshop is held in Athens, Greece in the summer of 2025 - prior to the graduation ceremony in Geneva, Switzerland to conclude the year-long program.
