    Long-time Polish Basketball Federation President Kajetan Hadzelek sadly passes

    MUNICH (Germany) - Long serving President of the Polish Basketball Federation, Kajetan Hadzelek has sadly passed away at the age of 93, it has been confirmed.

    MUNICH (Germany) - Long serving President of the Polish Basketball Federation, Kajetan Hadzelek has sadly passed away at the age of 93, it has been confirmed.

    Hadzelek was a highly regarded figure in Polish sports and had a long association with the Basketball Federation for the best part of five decades.

    He first held the position of Secretary General from 1963-1968, before a 10-year span as Vice President until 1978, and then two stints as President; between 1979-1980 and then 1993-2000.


    Hadzelek was also an Honorary President of the Polish Basketball Federation and became an Honorary Board Member of FIBA Europe in 2007 in recognition of his services to the sport.

    As a former player, Hadzelek won a bronze medal at the University Games in Paris in 1957, and later devoted himself to academic work. He also became President of the Olympic Education Center Foundation with an important role played in documenting the history of sports in Poland.

    Hadzelek also earned a number of other distinctions and medals in his native country to reflect his service and dedication to his lifetime's work.
