FIBA PLUS set to be a difference-maker for the Albanian Basketball Federation

TIRANA (Albania) - FIBA PLUS is set to significantly impact the Albanian Basketball Federation's future following their participation in an Operational Planning program.

TIRANA (Albania) - FIBA PLUS is set to significantly impact the Albanian Basketball Federation's future following their recent participation in an Operational Planning program.

FIBA PLUS is the umbrella for all FIBA development initiatives which is designed to strengthen and assist National Federations around the world. It is also a leading component of FIBA's strategic priority to Empower National Federations.

The FIBA PLUS Operational Planning support was recently delivered to the Albanian Basketball Federation to help the organization create a 12 to 24-month plan that focuses on strengthening the Federation's organizational structure and implementing key activities and programs that are essential in building basketball growth in Albania.

The project tipped off with an important situational analysis involving online interviews with a range of key people - both inside and outside of the organization, as well as a review of documentation. This acted as a launchpad for a tailored three-day workshop in Tirana, which proved to be hugely successful.

The attendees included members of the FIBA PLUS team, representatives from the FIBA Regional Office of Europe, and several staff and board members from the Albanian Basketball Federation. Working closely together, the participants showed the enthusiasm and engagement needed to achieve a highly productive few days of discussions and activities.

This contributed to the development and drafting of a strong two-year operational plan for Albanian Basketball. It is a plan that clearly defines the goals, the SMART objectives, the actions required and also advice on how to monitor and communicate the plan successfully to colleagues and stakeholders.

However, that is not the end of the collaboration or process since the dedicated FIBA PLUS team will continue to liaise closely and will follow up on the plan's implementation, providing valuable support when needed.

Albania was recently in action at  the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 European Pre-Qualifiers

Franko Bushati, Secretary General of the Albanian Basketball Federation, commented: "The support from FIBA PLUS will be instrumental for the Albanian Basketball Federation in the near future.

"This collaboration will help us strengthen our governance, enhance our technical capabilities, promote basketball across the nation, generate income, and develop our national teams.

"By streamlining our goals and priorities, we aim to elevate the status of basketball in Albania. We are deeply grateful to FIBA and its experts for their trust and assistance, which will be vital to the growth and success of Albanian basketball," he concluded.

Michal Konecny, FIBA Head of National Federations, who attended the workshop in person, added: "I was pleased by the quality of the discussions that took place. Everyone in attendance was very active and engaged throughout the process, and it was that teamwork that has helped deliver these exciting next steps within the plan.

"The value of FIBA PLUS is that it provides a partnership approach and one that we can clearly see is helping to take individual Federations to the next level, with the goal of improving the sport of basketball worldwide. I look forward to seeing Albanian Basketball's progress in the near future."

FIBA Executive Director Europe Kamil Novak added: "We are delighted to see that the Albanian Basketball Federation has joined several other European Federations in a FIBA PLUS program. We believe that this will undoubtedly help to enhance the daily operations of the Federation and aid them in further developing the sport in their country."
