MUNICH (Germany) - A number of aspiring playcallers have already benefited from the expert insight of Julie Barennes after a recent visit to French club Basket Landes raised the curtain on the latest edition of the Mentoring Program for Women Coaches.
Launched in Europe during 2020, the initiative continues to move from strength to strength, with the Women’s Summit and Mentoring Program for Women Coaches having also been recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as good practice, also being featured in their latest guide.
Selected from the 2025 Women's Basketball Summit in Postojna, Slovenia, a total of four participants visited Program Mentor, coach Barennes to learn more about being at the helm of a EuroLeague Women club from November 2-5.
Molly McDowell (NED), Agnes Jakab (ROM), Lea Soltau (GER) and Fruzsina Szendrei (HUN) were all present in Mont-de-Marsan to take in a varied menu of activities.
These included attendance at Basket Landes practices, team meetings and scouting sessions. The trip culminated in watching an exciting First Round matchup against CIMSA CBK Mersin, which the hosts won in front of a packed crowed to secure their safe passage to the next phase of the competition.
Since 2020, a total of 27 coaches have participated in the Mentoring Program for Women Coaches, with more than 80 percent reaching professional coaching positions - either in men’s leagues or at national team level.
