    TIME-OUT

EMPOWERMENT OF BASKETBALL PLAYERS THROUGH A SUSTAINABLE CAREER, AND A GOOD GOVERNANCE TRAINING SUPPORTING PROGRAM.

TIME-OUT is a project in the field of dual careers that focuses on the integration of basketball players into the labor market, showing the importance of thinking in advance about the life that follows after sport.

    PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT

    • To open new opportunities and pathways in the lives of players who would like to remain in basketball after retirement through sustainable and continued support throughout their studying and work placement.

    • To strengthen the good governance of basketball national federations and other sports organizations by identifying and developing their weaknesses.

    • To achieve sustainable cooperation between FIBA, the national federations, and other Basketball organizations by creating further education programs for players.

Find here more information about the three TIME-OUT editions implemented so far:

    • TIME-OUT 3.0 – 2024-2025

    • TIME-OUT 2.0 – 2020-2021

    • TIME-OUT 1.0 – 2017-2018

Created in partnership between Northumbria University and FIBA, this postgraduate-level course is designed to equip professional athletes with the skills, knowledge, and behaviors to be successful leaders and managers.

By providing the two-tier education and academic qualification from an elite business university program in conjunction with FIBA and FIBA Europe, the players-graduates will be able to access a wider range of employment opportunities on the market, not just in basketball but also in other sports, events, and marketing organizations.

Designed to meet the demands of professional basketball players this course consisting of three modules is delivered flexibly, combining face-to-face sessions at Northumbria University’s Campus in Newcastle with remote support.

Participants who successfully complete the course will graduate with a Postgraduate Certificate in Business and Management, providing a route to a Master's level qualification.
