Dr. K Govindaraj
Dr. K Govindaraj was elected FIBA Asia President in May 2023, becoming the first Indian to hold the position.
The 64-year-old, who is also the president of the Karnataka Olympic Association (KOA), succeeded Sheikh Saud Ali Al Thani, who was elected FIBA President in August 2023 in Manila, Philippines.
As well as being a member of FIBA Central Board for the 2019-2023 cycle, FIBA Asia Youth Basketball Committee Chariman and President of South Asian Basketball Association (SABA), Dr. Govindaraj served as the President of Basketball Federation of India (BFI) from 2015 until 2023. He also served as the vice-president of the BFI between 2007 and 2015.
As an administrator, Dr. Govindaraj contributed to the growth of basketball in India and during his presidency, India hosted numerous Asian events, most notably the successful hosting of two consecutive editions of the FIBA Women's Asia Cup (2017 and 2019).
The first-ever National Basketball League (INBL 5x5) was also established during his tenure.
