BEIRUT (Lebanon) – Thirteen women were among the participants in the FIBA Statisticians workshop conducted by the FIBA Regional Office-Asia in Tehran (Iran) recently. The two-day workshop (Jan 28-29) had a total of 31 participants attending.

Training sessions were conducted in FIBA Statisticians’ Manual 2024 and the new version 8 of FIBA LiveStats in order to keep the statisticians attached to the I.R.Iran Basketball Federation abreast with the latest updates in FIBA Statistics.

The best part of the workshop, according to Shahriyar Moghaddami, was, “connecting to new people and learning FIBA protocol for International games such as connecting to the TV Broadcasting and linking scoreboard and stats together.”

He felt the information about how to record an “assist” too very useful; “how to record an assist for non-shooting foul in a fast-break situation.”

Information on an “assist” found favour among other participants too.

“It was very important to understand what constitutes an assist and what does not,” said Seyed Mohammad Hossein Hosseini Bafghi.

There were others who found other parts of the training more useful.

“We were excited to learn about the updates in FIBA LiveStats,” said Poriya Mehrparvar.

“The most important information was about how finish or finalize the game when in some event the game is tied,” he said.

Mohammad Ali Akhtardanesh went a step ahead in his expectations.

He sought “a permanent database or for knowledge enhancement where we can watch and learn the challenging scenarios with examples of exceptions in the field of basketball statistics.”
