BEIRUT (Lebanon) – A total of 44 referees, including nine women attended the FIBA Referees workshop in Kazakhstan during the past weekend.
The three-day workshop (Aug 22-24) held under the aegis of Kazakhstan Basketball Federation is a part of FIBA Regional Office-Asia’s efforts to develop the aspects of game officiating in the region.
The comprehensive program covered a wide range of topics from both theoretical and practical perspectives. Participants received the latest updates on refereeing standards and basketball rules, in addition to training in game management, communication techniques, and video analysis. Physical fitness sessions were also a key component of the workshop.
“This event marks a significant step in strengthening the quality of officiating in our country, bringing our referees closer to international standards,” said Abay Alpamyssov, President of the Kazakhstan Basketball Federation.
“The Kazakhstan Basketball Federation highly values this cooperation with FIBA Asia and will continue to support initiatives that inspire and develop the next generation of referees,” he said.
“The clinic was very productive: our referees not only studied theory but also practiced it through exercises and officiating a friendly game, where they received valuable feedback,” said Alexandr Rulyov, Head of referees Kazakhstan Basketball Federation.
“This combination of theory, practice and live feedback made it unique and highly effective,” he added.
“The FIBA Referees Clinic in Kazakhstan was truly inspiring,” said FIBA Referee Yana Nikogossyan, one of the women referees.
“It not only gave me new knowledges and motivation to improve myself, but also a stronger desire to be a leader and support young referees on their path especially women,” she added.
