BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The FIBA Regional Office-Asia continued its efforts in further pushing the development of game officiating in the region after successfully organizing a game officials workshop in Chennai, India.
Held from 29 to 31 October in cooperation with the Basketball Federation of India (BFI), the three-day workshop drew a total of 29 male and female participants.
"This is another successful step by the FIBA Regional Office-Asia and the Basketball Federation of India to elevate officiating standards in the country," said Mr. Aadhav Arjuna, the President of BFI.
"With most participants under 30, there was a visible eagerness to learn and apply their training, promising a bright future. We look forward to many more such clinics ahead," he added.
The intensive program, led by experienced FIBA referees, offered both theoretical and practical instruction across a broad range of topics.
Participants were updated on the latest officiating standards and basketball regulations, while also receiving training in game management, communication skills, and video analysis.
The workshop also emphasized physical fitness as a crucial aspect.
"It is a great initiative by the FIBA Regional Office-Asia to enhance the officiating skills of referees," said Mr. Norman Isaac, the BFI Technical Commission Chairman. "The significance of workshops like this is to develop the next generation of referees.
These workshops are part of the FIBA Regional Office-Asia's commitment in honing various aspects of the sport including game officials, which are undeniably a major contributing factor in the quality of basketball games.
