BEIRUT (Lebanon)- The FIBA Regional Office–Asia recently organised a series of workshops aimed at acquainting four National Federations under the South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) FIBA Asia Sub-Zone with the operations of FIBA MAP, the online system.

The FIBA MAP (FIBA Management & Administration Platform) is the online FIBA information system to manage all information and data related to basketball. It offers a centralized system to collect and share information between NF & FIBA and support related processes.

The participants were taken through the details of FIBA eligibility rules, FIBA uniforms guidelines, Players' international transfers, Players’ and Coaches Licensing systems and FIBA Accreditation platform FEMS training and venues zoning system.

A special emphasis was also laid on training the participants to understand the mandatory requirement of registering the clubs in order to ensure their participation in the ensuing Sub-Zone Club competitions, which in turn form a part of the qualification system to BCL Asia and WBL Asia.

The highlight of the series of workshops was the training session conducted in Kathmandu, Nepal which inducted the National Federation staff of the Himalayan nation to join the MAP network.

Three staff members of the Nepal Basketball Association attended the session held on Feb 13, 2026.

The series of workshops began in the Maldives capital of Male on Feb 9, 2026 which saw seven participants attending.

“The FIBA MAP training was an eye-opener for us. It helped us understand many aspects that we previously did not fully comprehend,” said Ahmed Adam, president of the Maldives Basketball Association under whose aegis the workshop was conducted.

“The player licensing process and its associated fees were particularly important for us, and it was very beneficial to gain clarity on this. The in-person training and hands-on experience were extremely valuable and greatly enhanced our understanding,” said Adam, also the president of the SABA Sub-Zone.

The workshop in Colombo Sri Lanka was held two days later – on Feb 11, 2026 with the support of Sri Lanka Basketball Federation with five attending.

SLBF president VA Ashok Jeyakumar noted that the program represented an important step forward for the NF.

“This training has strengthened our understanding of international governance standards and provided practical direction as we continue building a more structured and sustainable basketball framework in Sri Lanka,” Jeyakumar said.

    Five women attend in Bhutan

The series concluded with the workshop conducted under Bhutan Basketball Federation in Thimphu, Bhutan on Feb 15, 2026 which saw the attendance of five women in a total of six participants.

The FIBA Regional Office-Asia will continue to conduct more FIBA MAP training in various NFs in Asia throughout the year.
