ZARATE (Argentina) – The FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2027 South American Qualifiers came to an end on Sunday at Espacio DAM in Zarate, Argentina, with the host nation crowned champion. Argentina defeated Venezuela 53-44 in the Final to retain the title and claim their fourth crown in the history of the competition.
The Albiceleste confirmed their recent dominance by reaching their fourth consecutive Final and lifting the trophy for the third time during that span. Their previous titles came in 1948, 2018 and 2024. Venezuela, meanwhile, claimed the second silver medal in history, following their 2016 finish.
Point guard Melisa Gretter was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. The Argentine also earned a spot on the All-Star Five alongside teammate Florencia Chagas, Colombia’s Manuela Rios, Venezuela’s Daniela Wallen and Brazil’s Aaliyah Guyton.
In the third-place game, Brazil defeated Colombia 61-48 to claim the bronze medal for the fourth time. It was the first time since 1962 that Brazil finished the tournament outside of the top two.
