At the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2025 in Santiago, the action went beyond the court as players, local children, and powerful initiatives came together to celebrate inclusion, inspire hope, and showcase basketball’s social impact.

SANTIAGO (Chile) – The recent FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2025 at the Centro de Deportes Colectivos was special in more ways than one. Beyond the on-court action that saw the host team return to AmeriCup action after ten years, the marquee event also staged memorable Basketball For Good activations.

30 local children with intellectual disabilities had a chance to interact with Brazil and Colombia’s star players, including Kamilla Cardoso and Damiris Dantas.

Through FIBA Foundation’s partnership with Special Olympics, these bright young sparks got to live an unforgettable experience. The collaboration is especially significant considering Chile will be hosting the Special Olympics World Games in 2027.

From meet and greets, photo ops, tips and inspirational advice, it was a mutual learning experience for everyone involved. Friendships were forged on and off the court, reinforcing sport’s ability to be an unrivalled icebreaker.

Aligning with the Foundation’s objective to leverage FIBA Events as a larger platform for bringing about a positive social change in society. Besides the Special Olympics clinic, a Mini Basketball camp was also organized. Through fun play-based games and drills facilitated by the event’s mascots and special guests in attendance, the session served as a launchpad for inspiring the next generation of basketball citizens – whether they be players, coaches, or fans.

Social impact initiatives, particularly involving women and children are a key inclusivity mandate for FIBA, and having checked both boxes, the 2025 AmeriCup’s legacy is now cemented for years to come.
