    FIBA Africa
    National Team Competitions

The FIBA AfroBasket and FIBA Women's AfroBasket are prestigious international basketball tournaments organized by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) in Asia. Both serve as key competitions for national teams in Africa.

    FIBA AfroBasket

    Tunisia: FIBA AfroBasket 2021 Champion

The African Nations Championship, known as ‘FIBA AfroBasket’, is the flagship competition of the African Regional Office of the International Basketball Federation.

The first edition of the championship was held in 1962 in Cairo, Egypt, with the host country winning the first-ever continental title.

While only five teams took part in the first edition, since 2007 the competition has pitted the 16 best nations on the African continent against each other.

To date, Angola is the most successful nation, having won 11 titles in 29 editions. Egypt and Senegal have five titles to their name.

The FIBA AfroBasket brings together the best African players from the world's top basketball leagues.

The competition was played every two years until 2017. Since then, subsequent editions have been held every four years.

    FIBA Women's AfroBasket

    Nigeria: FIBA AfroBasket 2021 Champion

The FIBA Women's AfroBasket is the flagship competition of African women's basketball. It takes place every two years and brings together the 12 best teams on the continent.

The 28th edition of the FIBA Women's AfroBasket will take place from 28 July to 6 August 2023 in Kigali, Rwanda.

The first edition of the FIBA Women AfroBasket took place in 1966 in Guinea, where Egypt was crowned champion after winning the final against the host country.

To date, Senegal is the most successful country, having won 12 of the 27 editions of FIBA Women AfroBasket. It is followed by Nigeria, with 6 titles, the last of which came at the 27th edition. Zaire (DR Congo) has three titles, followed by Angola and Egypt, both with two titles to their name, and Madagascar with one.

    AfroCan

    Morocco: FIBA AfroCan 2023 Champion

AfroCan is the new competition of African national teams directed by FIBA Africa.

The idea of creating this competition stems from the decision to organize the FIBA AfroBasket every four years instead of two years as before. It was therefore up to FIBA Africa to try to fill the gap that the national teams would have to endure during the four years between the last and the next edition of this competition.

AfroCan is opened to all players evolving on the African continent. In its format, this competition will give players plying their trade on the African continent the opportunity to showcase their talents.
