FIBA, in collaboration with Olympic Solidarity, continues to drive the global growth of 3x3 basketball by investing in youth development across its regions.
Through targeted 3x3 Youth Training Camps, FIBA Regional Offices are building sustainable pathways for players, coaches, referees, and National Federations, ensuring that the next generation is equipped to succeed on and off the court.
These camps, already delivered in Africa, the Americas, and Oceania, illustrate how FIBA is advancing its strategic priority of Empowering National Federations, leveraging the support of Olympic Solidarity to deliver impactful development opportunities worldwide.
Africa: Building High-Performance Pathways in Dakar
The first FIBA Africa 3x3 Elite Youth Camp, held in Dakar, Senegal, marked a major milestone in strengthening the continent's 3x3 ecosystem. Delivered in partnership with Olympic Solidarity, the camp brought together young players, coaches, referees, and officials from across Africa in a high-performance environment.
Participants from Senegal, Kenya, Egypt, and Algeria engaged in a three-day program combining technical training, tactical development, and practical competition. The structure of the camp reflected a holistic development approach:
Dedicated training streams for players, coaches, referees, and table officials
A blend of classroom instruction, on-court sessions, and video analysis
Competitive games to apply newly learned skills in real conditions
By providing access to expert instruction and international best practices, the initiative directly supports the long-term growth of 3x3 basketball across Africa. It also aligns with broader ambitions such as preparing youth talent for global events, including the Youth Olympic Games.
Americas: Strengthening National Federations in the Caribbean
In the Americas, the FIBA 3x3 Youth Training Camp in the Caribbean demonstrates how Olympic Solidarity supports structured, multi-phase development projects. Implemented under the FIBA Plus program, the initiative focuses on strengthening the capacity of National Federations in the region.
Hosted in Nassau, Bahamas, the camp gathered participants from six countries, including the Bahamas, Jamaica, Haiti, and Trinidad and Tobago. The program combined:
Technical and tactical training for U23 players
Education sessions for coaches on 3x3 methodology
Referee clinics focused on rules and officiating
Workshops for National Federation representatives on governance, planning, and sustainability
A key feature of the Americas project is its long-term development framework. Prior to the camp, each participating federation receives tailored support from FIBA experts, including analysis, consultations, and customized action plans for 3x3 growth. This comprehensive approach ensures that the benefits of Olympic Solidarity extend beyond the event itself, leaving a lasting legacy in each participating country.
Oceania: Accelerating Regional Talent Pathways
In Oceania, the FIBA 3x3 High Performance Camp, now in its second edition, highlights the region's continued momentum in developing elite 3x3 pathways. Supported by Olympic Solidarity and key regional partners, the camp brings together players, coaches, and referees from across the Pacific.
Held on Australia's Gold Coast, the second edition included participants from Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, and the Solomon Islands. The five-day camp delivers:
Intensive on-court training and physical preparation
Education sessions on performance, recovery, and wellbeing
Dedicated development tracks for coaches and referees
Game scenarios to simulate high-performance competition
Aligned with FIBA's global strategy, the camp plays a vital role in expanding the region’s talent base and raising the standard of play. It also supports athletes preparing for major competitions, including the Commonwealth Games and Youth Nations League.
A Unified Global Impact
Across all regions, these camps highlight how FIBA is delivering on its strategic priority of empowering National Federations, with Olympic Solidarity playing a vital role in supporting their execution and enabling sustainable development initiatives. Through this collaboration, FIBA supports National Federations to:
Deliver high-quality training environments
Strengthen capacity
Create clear development pathways for youth
Promote gender equality through equal participation opportunities
Build sustainable ecosystems at the grassroots and elite levels
From Dakar to Nassau to the Gold Coast, the shared objective remains the same: to empower the next generation and accelerate the global growth of 3x3 basketball.
