Olympic Solidarity aims to assist National Olympic Committees in developing athlete programs, with four programs available for FIBA's National Federation members. All of FIBA's National Federation members can apply and benefit from:
The Team Support Grant program
The Development of National Sports Structure program
The Technical Course for Coaches program
The Scholarship for Coaches program
All the above-listed programs represent a great asset in the development of basketball, and FIBA Member National Federations can apply to all of them at any time of the year and independently from one program to the other. In order to benefit from those programs, FIBA’s National Federations must apply via their respective National Olympic Committees (NOCs) - Guidelines and application forms are available on this page. FIBA plays a central role in evaluating, approving and coordinating all basketball-related Olympic Solidarity programs.
TEAM SUPPORT GRANT
The objective of this program is to offer financial assistance to a maximum of one national team (Youth or Senior, Men or Women) per National Olympic Committee (NOC) to prepare and participate in regional, continental or world level competitions with an objective of qualify for the Olympic Games. Only one National Team per NOC (all Olympic Team Sports combined) can benefit from the Team Support Grant program for this current four-year plan, and only team sports (including Basketball) are eligible for this program.
DEVELOPMENT OF NATIONAL SPORTS STRUCTURE
The main objective of this program is to develop a coaching structure with a mid- to long-term action plan. This, in turn, will provide assistance to the National Federation for:
Establishing a national coaching certification system
Establishing coherent and realistic long-term development plans
Training local coaches by organizing local and regional courses
Training human resources susceptible to continuing the work beyond the term of the project
Putting in place talent identification programs
The program consists of visits to a FIBA Expert for a period of time ranging from three to six months. Depending on specific needs and the budget available, it is possible that the external expert’s mission is divided into short-term visits rather than one long-term period. For example: assessment (visit 1), implementation (visit 2) and follow-up (visit 3). A local person from the National Federation must be responsible for the management of the project and for ensuring the continuity of development activities after the end of the program. Such a format clearly meets the common objective from both Olympic Solidarity and FIBA, which is to develop an autonomous capacity in the countries where the action plans are conducted.
TECHNICAL COURSES FOR COACHES
The main objective of the Technical Courses for Coaches program is to provide basic training to coaches through a six- to twelve-day intensive course led by a FIBA Expert.
SCHOLARSHIPS FOR COACHES
The main objective of this program is to offer coaches who are officially recognized as such and active in basketball within their National Federations access to high-level training, experience, and knowledge, which they will then use to benefit their respective national sports structures. The selected coaches attend recognized seminars of high-level training centers or universities. These institutions include:
Delaware and U.S Olympic Training Centre, International Coaching
Enrichment Certificate Program (ICECP), Colorado - United States.
Institut National du Sport et de l’Education Physique (INSEP), Paris – France
