FIBA is actively advancing a comprehensive plan focused on both sustainability and innovation, with the aim of reinforcing its position as a global leader in the dynamic and rapidly evolving world of sports technology. Additionally, this objective highlights FIBA's commitment to developing pioneering solutions that not only enhance the game of basketball but also promote environmental stewardship and long-term progress throughout the basketball ecosystem.
FIBA Business Development
In 2025, FIBA is accelerating its transformation through various initiatives in technology, esports, sustainability, and business development. At the forefront is eFIBA, which is expanding its global footprint with new calendar formats, in-person events, and deeper partnerships - most notably with NBA2K, where FIBA’s inclusion in the game marks a major milestone.
Technology at the forefront
FIBA's extended partnership with Genius Sports positions it as a leader in AI-driven game insights and performance tools. The FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2025 in Lausanne debuted these technologies, with GeniusIQ, setting new standards for fan engagement and team analytics for players, coaches, scouts, and fans.
Through strategic collaborations with academic institutions, startups, and tech incubators, FIBA is co-developing solutions in data, fan engagement, and health management. The FIBA Digital Ecosystem, launched in late 2024, integrates fan hubs, event platforms, and institutional tools to boost visibility, optimize fan data, and drive digital revenue.
FIBA is also pioneering court innovation with ASB Glassfloor, enhancing both player and fan experiences. The Basketball Champions League Final Four 2024 showcased live stats on the playing surface, a first in basketball history.
Investing in third parties
The FIBA Equipment & Venue Centre continues to position itself as a hub for basketball technology, promoting software start-ups and defining test criteria for new technologies, with the goal of creating opportunities for innovative companies to trial their products in FIBA competitions.
FIBA's investment strategy includes acquiring a majority stake in Courts of the World and partnering with ScorePlay to streamline digital asset management. These moves aim to expand court access, enhance media workflows, and create new revenue opportunities.
Sustainability
In sustainability, FIBA retained its ISO 20121 certification and expanded eco-friendly practices across events, including free public transport, waste reduction, and carbon footprint analysis. A new FIBA Sustainability Strategy launching in 2025 will set measurable goals across environmental, social, governance, and economic pillars, aligning basketball with global standards.
