MIES (Switzerland) - Discover the three outstanding winners of the 2024 FIBA Photo Contest.

From the 21st of October to the 21st of December, date of the World Basketball Day, photographers from all around the world had the opportunity to participate in the 8th edition of the FIBA Photo Contest.

This contest shows that basketball is more than just a game — it is a universal language that transcends borders, cultures, and backgrounds. It unites people by breaking social, geographical, and linguistic barriers.

In 2024, “Emotions” was chosen as the theme of the contest to challenge photographers all around the world to capture the most powerful photos highlighting the genuine emotions felt during these unique moments.

Do you remember the thrill of picking up a basketball for the first time? The rush of adrenaline on a game day? The heartbreak of a loss and the pure joy of victory? The quiet peace of an empty court when it's just you and the hoop?

The record 1,504 photos we received define the reasons we play, and why despite the aches and pains, the wins and losses, we keep coming back. Basketball isn’t just a sport and the FIBA Photo Contest represents the passion, the way we live, and the community we belong to.

Despite the record participation of 806 photographers, and 126 countries represented, there could only be 3 winners. And here they are:

1st place: “I got it Mom!” – Dedy Dedy, Indonesia

This shot captures a moment of pure joy between a player and his mom after winning an overtime final game of the Aim High Winter Cup 2024. Once the game ended, he ran and jumped to his mom to celebrate together.

“One thing I had in mind after looking at the photo on my laptop was: “I wish I captured more reactions because this is great,” expressed Dedy.

2nd place: “Basketball is my life” – Ziaul Huque, Bangladesh

“Mohammad Jisad is a physically impaired basketball player. His feet were like this at the time of his birth. Despite having this condition of his legs, Jisad never fainted. With unwavering faith in himself, he takes his crutch and carries on with his daily work. He cherishes basketball, his favorite game, and goes crazy with joy every time he plays. Because basketball is his childhood love,” explained Huque.

3rd place: “Collaboration” – Val P. Bagabaldo, Philippines

“These children came together and made a makeshift basketball court to foster friendships and learn valuable lessons about sportsmanship,” expressed Bagabaldo.

The top 100 photos selected by the jury will be published in the annual FIBA Photo Book.

A big thank you to all participants for sharing your stories through the lens!
