MIES (Switzerland) - The successful conclusion of the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 has brought major changes to the Top 10 of the FIBA World Ranking Women, presented by Nike.
Reigning World Champions USA posted a perfect 6-0 record and now sit above the 1,000-point mark in the rankings. Runners-up France also enjoyed an impressive tournament, recording five wins with strong margins. USA have extended their lead over France, while Les Bleues have created a safety cushion over the teams behind them.
Spain have climbed onto the podium after claiming the Bronze medal in Berlin, making an impressive three-place jump.
Women’s World Cup hosts Germany are the great winners of this ranking update. They recorded the largest gain in the Top 40, rising seven places after reaching the Semi-Finals for the first time.
Australia faced a number of challenges during the summer, and their Quarter-Final elimination prevented them from holding off the advances of Spain and Germany. Belgium followed a similar path. They remain ahead of China but have seen the two Semi-Finalists leapfrog them.
China, finalists at the 2022 World Cup, had to battle through the Qualification for Quarter-Finals to reach the Top 8 in Berlin, and this was reflected in the rankings.
The next movements in the Top 20 can be explained by two major factors.
First, teams that did not qualify for the World Cup - Brazil, Canada and Serbia - missed the opportunity to earn points and were consequently affected in the rankings. However, Brazil played five additional games at the FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2027 South American Qualifiers, giving them a competitive advantage over Canada and putting them above their direct rival.
Second, Hungary’s Cinderella run to the Quarter-Finals saw them move ahead of Türkiye, Czechia and Mali.
Outside the Top 20, Mexico are the highest-ranked team to make significant gains, rising six places to 25th after reaching the final of the Women's Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament 2026 on home soil.
FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2027 hosts El Salvador climbed nine places to 42nd following their participation in the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2027 Centrobasket Qualifiers.
At that event, the Virgin Islands, who lost their Semi-Final against Mexico by just three points, recorded an impressive 16-place rise.
Three new teams join the ranking with this update: Guam, the Federated States of Micronesia and Palau, following the FIBA Women's Micronesian Cup 2026. The FIBA World Ranking Women now features a total of 118 National Federations.
