Meeting of Secretaries General sets the stage for continued cooperation ahead of the FIBA Europe General Assembly.

RIGA (Latvia) - The annual Meeting of the Secretaries General took place on Friday, May 23, as part of the events organized in conjunction with the FIBA Europe General Assembly in Riga, Latvia.

The format, introduced last year, serves as a platform for sharing knowledge and strengthening ties among European National Federations.

The 2025 edition, held in the Latvian capital, was attended by representatives from 42 of the 50 European National Federations.

The meeting was chaired by FIBA Executive Director Europe Kamil Novak, with FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis also in attendance. FIBA President Sheikh Saud Ali Al Thani and FIBA Europe President Jorge Garbajosa addressed welcome words to the participants.

"The Meeting of the Secretaries General has already established itself as a pragmatic framework that facilitates the sharing of new initiatives, insights and best practices while also providing a forum to address important topics," said Mr. Novak.

"This is crucial both for us and for our National Federations, as it unites us and drives collective progress toward shared goals."

This year, the meeting covered agenda points addressing a number of key topics, including NCAA and NIL, the roll-out of the Hoops 4 Schools program and updates on other FIBA initiatives, in addition to other presentations by the FIBA Europe Office.

Tomorrow, following the conclusion of the General Assembly, participants will also take part in a workshop exploring two distinct themes: artificial intelligence and branding.

The next Meeting of the Secretaries General will take place in Reykjavik, Iceland in 2026.
