ABIDJAN (Cote d'Ivoire) - Following a FIBA Africa Board meeting in Abidjan last month, the schedules for the biennial FIBA U18 AfroBasket tournament qualifiers and final round have been confirmed.
The Board decided to award Côte d'Ivoire the hosting rights for both the 2026 U18 AfroBasket (men and women), following their successful organisation of the Women's AfroBasket 2025 in Abidjan. Tentative dates will be confirmed later.
Meanwhile, the U18 AfroBasket qualifiers (men and women) will take place from late May to mid-July.
The host countries, participants and dates of the qualifiers are as follows:
FIBA Africa Zone 1
Host: Tunis (Tunisia). Date: 08-13 July. Participants: Algeria and Tunisia (Men and Women), Libya (Men). Qualifying tickets: One place per gender. Note: Morocco (Men) are automatically qualified for the final round by virtue of finishing fourth in the 2024 FIBA U18 AfroBasket held in South Africa.
FIBA Africa Zone 3
Host: Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso). Date: 04–17 July. Participants: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana (Men and Women). Qualifying tickets: One place per gender. Note: Nigeria (Women) are automatically qualified for the final round by virtue of finishing second in the 2024 FIBA U18 Women’s AfroBasket held in South Africa.
FIBA Africa Zone 4
Host: Malabo (Equatorial Guinea). Date: 28 May-4 June. Participants: Equatorial Guinea, Chad (Men and Women), Cameroon and Republic of Congo (Men). Qualifying tickets: One place per gender.
Note: Cameroon are automatically qualified for the final round by virtue of finishing third in the 2024 FIBA U18 Women’s AfroBasket held in South Africa.
FIBA Africa Zone 5
Host: Kampala (Uganda). Date: 14–21 June. Participants: Burundi, Rwanda, Egypt, Tanzania, Kenya and South Sudan (Men and Women) and Uganda (Men). Qualifying tickets: One place per gender. Note: Uganda (women) are qualified for the final round by virtue of finishing fourth in the 2024 FIBA U18 Women’s AfroBasket held in South Africa.
FIBA Africa Zone 6
Host: Gaborone (Botswana). Date: The official date is yet to be confirmed. Participants: Angola, Botswana and Zimbabwe (Men and Women) and Mozambique (Men). Qualifying tickets: One place per gender.
FIBA Africa Zone 7
Host: Antananarivo (Madagascar). Date: June (exact date is yet to be confirmed). Participants: Madagascar. Other participant teams are yet to confirm participation. Qualifying tickets: One place per gender.
