Regional Office of Africa appoint new Executive Director

    Julien Farran replaces Dr. Alphonse Bile as the Regional Office of Africa Executive Director.

    CAIRO (Egypt) - During its last General Assembly, which was held alongside the 2025 Women’s Basketball League Africa (WBLA) in Cairo, Egypt, the Regional Office of Africa reviewed, approved several key decisions and planned projects for the next twelve months.

    Those in attendance at the meeting included the Regional Office of Africa President Anibal Manave, who was joined by FIBA President Sheikh Saud Ali Al Thani, FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis, Egypt Minister of Sports Ashraf Sobhy, outgoing Regional Office of Africa Executive Director Alphonse Bile, the Presidents of the seven FIBA Regional Africa zones, and representatives of the Executive Committee.

    In his opening speech, Mr Manave welcomed the guests and applauded the achievements of the Regional Office of Africa in a year in which the continent witnessed two major, exciting tournaments: the Women’s AfroBasket in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, and the AfroBasket in the Angolan cities of Namibe and Luanda.

    Mr Manave also praised the successful organisation of the 2025 FIBA Regional Africa 3x3 Championships in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

    In his appreciation of the year’s activities, Alphonse Bile acknowledged not only the organization’s achievements in 2025 but also encouraged the Regional Office of Africa to strive for success in the years ahead.

    One of the key decisions announced during the General Assembly in Cairo was that Julien Farran had replaced Dr Alphonse Bile as the new Executive Director.
