BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The FIBA Regional Office-Asia continued furthering the development of game officiating in the region after successfully organizing a FIBA Referees workshop in Bahrain.
The three-day workshop (April 15-18) held under the aegis of Bahrain Basketball Association saw 38 participants, including nine women.
The comprehensive program covered a wide range of topics from both theoretical and practical perspectives. Participants received the latest updates on refereeing standards and basketball rules, in addition to training in game management, communication techniques, and video analysis. Physical fitness sessions were also a key component of the workshop.
“We are honored to have hosted the FIBA Asia Officials Workshop here in the Kingdom of Bahrain from April 15 to 18. This important event reflects our unwavering commitment to supporting the development of basketball across Asia, particularly in the area of officiating, which plays a vital role in upholding the integrity and quality of the game,” said BBA President Alaa Mudara.
“This initiative not only enhances the technical capabilities of our regional officials but also strengthens the spirit of cooperation and knowledge exchange within the basketball community,” he added.
“It is our pleasure to host this valued workshop for our referees here in Kingdom of Bahrain which was very beneficial and contributed to enhance their future performance,” said Tareq Alarabi, Head of Referees Committee in BBA.
“We extend our sincere thanks and deep appreciation (to the FIBA Regional Office-Asia) for providing this valuable opportunity for international referees to participate in updating their knowledge and benefiting from the newly introduced officiating points (3PO) and (IOT),” said FIBA Referee Fatima Al Mutawaj.
“This initiative represents a remarkable step towards enhancing the efficiency of referees and enriching their understanding of the latest updates in the game’s regulations, which directly contributes to the advancement of officiating standards,” she added.
