Becoming a FIBA Agent is a very important role, and the program is linked to one of FIBA's strategic priorities, to 'Enlarge the FIBA Family'. Along with focusing on existing programs, FIBA also has the desire to implement various actions and projects that will increase the number of licensed participants, including player agents.

Agents take a leading role in providing career and transfer guidance while also safeguarding players' image rights and much more.

Seventeen different nationalities were in the group that have become agents this week. All applicants took an examination and passed. Nine of them are former players, including five that suited up for the national teams of Belgium, Great Britain, Luxemburg, Portugal and Switzerland.

Among the players that have become a FIBA Licensed Agent is Nicolas Dos Santos, who had a 15-year professional career and wore the national team jersey of Switzerland. Dos Santos is also a graduate of the FIBA Timeout program.

"I loved the relationship that I had with my agent during my career," he said.

"I truly believe that agents are a key in the success of a player's career-building process and I really want to be a part of it to help as many players as I can."

Another that has become a FIBA Licensed Agent is Carlos Andrade, who played professional basketball for 20 years. A member of Portugal's national team for a decade, Andrade was his country's leading scorer in their FIBA EuroBasket 2011 campaign in Lithuania.

He stopped playing in 2018. Like Dos Santos, he had a very good reason to become a certified FIBA Agent.

"I have got into being an agent, not by mistake, but for the purpose of helping friends with the knowledge, the know-how, and experience that I have gathered over so many years," he said.

"My goal is to help as many as I can to not go through what I went through with agents in the past. In the near future I want to look back and have players that didn't expect to get to a high level and I help them throughout the process to reach their full potential. That's my goal."
