MUNICH (Germany) - The Mentoring Program for Female Coaches has completed its first visit of the 2023-24 season with a trip to Prague.
The visit took place from October 1-5 and included attending the EuroLeague Women clash between ZVVZ USK Praha and Basket Landes with both teams coached by two of the FIBA Europe coaching mentors.
The mentees also attended practices, scouting sessions, team meetings and had exchanges with the coaching staff as they shadowed their mentor across the four-day visit.
The program has become a permanent feature within FIBA Europe following a successful pilot as it primarily focuses on female coaches that have an ambition to become professional coaches in the future.
Six new coaches - Anna Lakloth of Hungary, Agata Grabowiecka of Poland, Mariana Rodrigues of Portugal, Olga Gonzalez of Spain, Josephine Traberg of Norway and Erynn Legge of Great Britain - were selected at the 16th edition of the Women's Basketball Summit in Postonja, Slovenia back in July.
They have been split across the three mentors with Prague head coach Natalia Hejkova hosting the first visit. Serbian national team head coach Marina Maljkovic will welcome the mentees for the next activity during the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers window in November with a visit also scheduled with Basket Landes playcaller Julie Barennes.
The program is set to reach its conclusion for the current season with the EuroLeague Women Final Four in April, 2024.
