KIATO (Greece) - It proved to be an unforgettable night as the curtain came down on the first ever 3x3 Finals at the FIBA Masters Open 2026 with the packed out stands full of fans enjoying some amazing action and drama. In what proved to be an absorbing conclusion to the 3x3 competition, the climax came with the highly anticipated men's 40+ gold medal game between Romania and the from IBO Team host nation Greece. It was not a surprise that it drew the biggest crowd of the week.
IBO Team fought hard and gave everything until the final buzzer in pursuit of some home soil glory, but they couldn't nullify their opponents Romania who used their height advantage to brilliant effect and cruise to a gold medal. Team Spanchis completed the 40+ podium with bronze.
In the women's 40+ Final, it was a very tight contest throughout, but Poland's depth of firepower ultimately made the difference against Romania and denied their opponents a golden 3x3 double. Meanwhile Greek side Women Stars took a creditable third place. In the men's 45+ title game, it was an all-Spanish affair as CD Matchup took down compatriots StreetballAmik, with the Greek +45ers claiming the last podium step.
In the men's 50+ category, it was Rare Air of USA who proved unbeatable, with their presence in the post too much for runners-up Ecoland of Romania. The bronze medal was snapped up by Australia. Throughout the evening for all of the 3x3 Finals, the stands were busy at the breathtaking Kiato port venue. One with the seaside only a few metres away, provided the perfect backdrop to frame the stunning plays on the court. Once the 3x3 Finals were wrapped up, the spotlight turned to the various awards ceremonies, with players presented with their medals by a number of distinguished guests.
This included the Greek Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Dimas; Mayor of the Municipality of Sikyonia, Spyridon Stamatopoulos ; FIBA Secretary General, Andreas Zagklis; FIBA Central Board member, Asterios Zois and representatives of the Hellenic Basketball Federation. With the medals awarded, it was time for the social side of the FIBA Masters Open 2026 to take center stage as everyone headed into downtown Kiato, where Mayor Stamatopoulos had organized a party. This brought together players, families and locals together for one last time, with the celebrations continuing into the night in what turned out to be a fitting way to close the inaugural 3x3 competition at the FIBA Masters Open.
