BEIRUT (Lebanon)- The FIBA Regional Office-Asia recently conducted a Level 2 Sports Performance Specialist (SPS) course in Oman. Organised under the aegis of the Oman Basketball Association, the three-day course (Oct 21-23) in Muscat saw 15 participants, including two women.
The Sports Performance Specialist course is a special initiative of the FIBA Regional Office-Asia aimed at empowering local physical trainers with a program to promote strength and conditioning in National Teams and local Clubs. Its objective is to decrease non-contact injury rates and increase the knowledge of coaches about strength and conditioning in order to elevate the standard of Basketball.
“This program completely redefined my understanding of strength and conditioning as a coach,” said Muatasim Rabia Al-Hinai, an athletic coach.
“I learned that performance preparation is not just about exercises—it’s a structured system that includes performance analysis, injury prevention, and proper load planning,” he said.
“The content was exceptional and built on solid scientific principles, especially the modules on 3D training methodology and sports injury analysis,” Mahir Hamed Al-Amri, coach of Seeb basketball club.
“This course taught me how to treat training as a strategic process rather than a routine,” said Basim Salmeen Al-Musallami, a player with Al Nasr Club.
“Concepts like performance evaluation, prioritizing strength and conditioning needs, and individualized programming have reshaped my coaching mindset,” he added
“I’m very proud to be part of this program, which provided us, as female professionals, with a valuable opportunity to learn and engage in an advanced technical environment,” said Wafa Sassi Zaghdoud, head coach of Oman women’s National Team.
“I particularly benefited from the modules on injury prevention and designing performance programs for female athletes,” she added.
