Kazakhstan qualify for FIBA U18 Women’s Asia Cup Division B

    Clean sweep of both games gives Kazakhstan girls CABA U18 title

    ASTANA (Kazakhstan) – Powerhouse Kazakhstan proved their top billing status by completing a clean sweep of their games in the Central Asia Basketball Association (CABA) U18 Women’s competition last and thus qualified as the Sub-Zone’s representatives to the FIBA U18 Women’s Asia Cup Division B competition scheduled later this year.

    The FIBA U18 Women’s Asia Cup Division B is scheduled to be played in Bangkok (Thailand) from July 13-19 this year featuring six teams from Asia joined two of their Oceania counterparts. The FIBA Asia Sub-Zones – East Asia, South East Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, Gulf and West Asia – are scheduled to host qualifying events for Division B.

    Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan the two travelling teams tipped off the competition which the former won 70-50, but both went on to lose the next game to the hosts.

    Kazakhstan took to the court first against Kyrgyzstan and won 75-34 without raising a sweat.

    After blazing to a 13-4 start in the opening five minutes, Kazakhstan never looked and cruised along.

    Amina Sharipova returned a 5/11 in field goal shooting and led the scoring Aziza Temirgazy’s team with 14 points. Liana Dymovskikh had 10 points. Aray Nurbolatkyzy and Kseniya Gordeyeva made their presence felt with 11 and 8 rebounds respectively.

    Elizaveta Chervaneva had a consolation game-high 15 points for Kyrgyzstan but she was only player scoring in double digits.

    The hosts returned the following day to take on Uzbekistan and reaped an 89-41 win to clinch the title.

    Sharipova contributed significantly yet again in the team’s win with 17 points, coming in a 6/11 field shooting. Yerlan Shakhida too had 17 points.

    Liana Dymovskikh’s missed a triple double by 4 assists while posting 19 points and 10 rebounds. Milana Krutevich had a dozen points along with 8 rebounds.

    Munirakhon Khalikova’s 14 points was the highest for Kyrgyzstan.
