DOHA (Qatar) – The Mini World Cup came to a rip-roaring and successful conclusion today, as the Lebanese school defeated the Philippine school 58–47 in the final to win the inaugural title.
Perhaps more important than the result, however, was the Qatar Basketball Federation's determination to help youngsters become not just better players, but better people.
The Mini World Cup, delivered through an innovative competitive format that mirrors the atmosphere of the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027, has been a big hit because it has helped nurture local talent. The event gave youngsters a stage to perform, build confidence, and embrace a healthy lifestyle.
Basketball competition also helps children develop social skills, resilience, and an understanding of the importance of teamwork. It has fostered education, inclusion, and personal development.
By staging the first edition of the Mini World Cup, Qatar demonstrated that not only national team programs and elite players benefit from major events, but also the youngsters who aspire to follow in their heroes' footsteps.
Predrag Bogosavljev, Director of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027, said: "The successful conclusion of the inaugural Mini World Cup season is a significant milestone and this event serves as an important platform for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027.

In Season One, 32 schools participated in a World Cup-style format. The number 32 was chosen because that is the number of countries participating in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027.
After an exceptionally well-organized tournament, many youngsters have developed a stronger and deeper connection to the sport, and the players will be eager to build on their experience in Season Two, set to take place in 2027.
