BEIRUT (Lebanon)- The FIBA Regional Office-Asia recently conducted the first ever Beyond the Court program at Malaysia attracting 17 participants at Seramban, the host city of forthcoming FIBA U16 Women’s Asia Cup 2025.

Launched in May 2025, the Beyond the Court is an initiative designed to harness the power of basketball to inculcate in young athletes the essential values and life skills that can help them navigate through challenging life on and off the court.

The program provides coaches with the tools and strategies to integrate values and life skills into their sessions to help young athletes not only excel on the court but also contribute to the community.

“Beyond The Court is a basketball clinic that teaches life skills and values through the sport. It uses frameworks like Experiential Learning Theory to help players transfer what they learn on the court to their lives,” said Chase Cheok Lay Kiat, coach of Negeri Sembilan Basketball Association.

“The Beyond The Court program provided a structured and disciplined environment that strongly reflected the values of teamwork, resilience, and leadership, which align closely with military principles,” said Mohd Nur Sultan Mohe Bashir who works as the Assistant Coach of Team Malaysia Armed Forces.

“The environment was orderly yet motivating, with clear direction from the instructors and strong camaraderie among participants,” he added.

“The environment of the clinic was highly conducive and supportive,” said Calvin Wong Yat Weng coach of Team Malaysia Armed Forces.

“The content shared was relevant and useful, and the flow of the sessions made it easy to follow. From a facilities perspective, everything was excellent. The venue provided a comfortable and conducive learning environment that supported both theory and practical sessions,” said Dham Khalid Abdul Sallam, coach of Sarawak Women Team.
