FIBA signs new partnership with Sky in Italy

    Italian basketball fans can look forward to top FIBA action as Sky signs a long-term deal running until 2029.

    MIES (Switzerland) - FIBA has confirmed a new collaboration with Sky, which sees the Italian broadcaster landing the rights to show some of the biggest FIBA competitions until 2029.

    The multi-year agreement ensures Italian fans will be able to enjoy coverage of FIBA's flagship national team tournaments for both men and women during the next four-year period.

    Underlining the strong momentum of basketball in Italy, the deal showcases the sport's growing appeal and the continued investment in premium basketball content by Sky.

    This agreement completes a comprehensive basketball offering of Sky that provides consumers with an exciting lineup of national and international competitions.

    Italy men's team finished 8th at the previous World Cup in 2023.

    Tipping off with the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 European Qualifiers on November 27, Italy face Iceland in Tortona, before playing in Lithuania on November 30. They'll also face Great Britain in further windows in February 2026 and July 2026 as they look to reach the highly anticipated FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 in Doha.

    In March 2026, the Italian women's team will compete in the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 Qualifying Tournaments. Aiming to make the main show in Berlin next September for the first time since 1994, they will have taken confidence having reached the last podium step at the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2025.

    Italy took a medal at the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2025 and will go to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2026 Qualifying Tournaments.

    Sky will show the final phase of the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026, and the coverage of women's basketball will also include the final stages of FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2027 and the subsequent 2029 edition.

    The deal also includes qualifying and final stage games from FIBA EuroBasket 2029 and other men's and women's Continental events from Africa, America, and Asia. Meanwhile, fans will also get to enjoy the 'Road to LA 2028' with the broadcaster covering the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments for both men and women.

    Frank Leenders, Director General of FIBA Media and Marketing Services, stated: "It's a significant agreement to have signed with Sky as it really does highlight the growth and popularity of basketball in Italy.

    "Access to elite-level FIBA national team competitions was the missing piece, and with this deal, Sky will be able to offer an enhanced package and one that will satisfy the huge appetite Italian viewers have for the sport."

    This agreement was negotiated by FIBA Media, the strategic partnership between FIBA and DAZN.
