MIES (Switzerland) - FIBA is proud to have hosted the second day of the smartcities & sport summit 2024 at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball and to have also played a prominent role in helping to promote and deliver the main purpose of this year's exciting event.
This was to ensure the continued focus on exploring the dynamic synergies and opportunities between host cities and International Sports Federations.
As a respected and key member of the Olympic network, FIBA was invited by the City of Lausanne to facilitate this edition for one of the three days - something made even more special as it is the 30th anniversary celebration of the designation of Lausanne as the Olympic Capital.
Delegates and special guests from around the world attended FIBA's global headquarters on November 12, with more than 250 people attending, including representatives from the International Olympic Committee, the City of Lausanne, and numerous dignitaries from across the globe.
The smartcities & sport summit 2024 aim was to bring together visionaries, thought leaders, and industry experts to share insights, foster collaboration, and shape the future of the dynamic relationship between cities and International Sports Federations. This edition emphasized that despite differences in design, operations, resources, and expectations, cities and International Sports Federations can still collaborate effectively to achieve the shared goal of delivering outstanding sporting events.
FIBA Vice President Jorge Garbojosa gave a welcome address to the attendees, with FIBA Media & Marketing Director General Frank Leenders then leading a Summit session highlighting the organization’s strategic initiatives, focusing on its comprehensive event portfolio and commercial strategy to enhance global basketball engagement and growth.
The Summit also included a range of other speakers, including an insight into creating long-term benefits through sport - as seen through the lens of Paris 2024 with Pierre Rabadan, the Vice-Mayor of the French city.
