Guy Peixoto receives the FIBA Silver Plate Award in recognition of his transformative impact on Brazilian basketball.

MIES (Switzerland) - Brazilian Basketball Confederation President Guy Peixoto has received the FIBA Silver Plate Award, honoring him for his services to Brazilian basketball.

He was presented with the award this week at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball in Mies, Switzerland, by the FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis.

Elected president in March of 2017, while the Brazilian Confederation had been suspended by FIBA and managed through an ad-hoc Task Force, Peixoto has overseen progress and growth in the National Federation in both sporting and organizational aspects.

Notably, under his leadership the CBB reorganized its administrative and financial structures, and returned successfully to its international challenges both as an organizer and as participant: Brazil staged the flagship FIBA Americas event, the FIBA AmeriCup 2022 under Covid-protocols, and the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament in 2024 in Belem.

Brazil's women won the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2023, while the men upset home favourites Latvia at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2024 in Riga and then competed at the Summer Games in France, reaching the Quarter-Finals.

Peixoto, a successful businessman, was a player who suited up for Brazilian clubs like Remo, Paysandu, Monte Líbano and Sport Club Corinthians Paulista. He won multiple championships in Brazil and also had the honor of playing for the national team that claimed second place in the inaugural FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup in 1979 and the men's South American Championship in 1983.

He concludes his successful tenure at CBB's Presidency in March 2025.
