Thanks to the FIBA Open proceeds, the FIBA Foundation contributed to creating a computer lab at the Basketball Artists School, giving Katutura's students essential digital skills and brighter opportunities.

WINDHOEK (Namibia) – The Basketball Artist School has just opened their brand-new computer Lab thanks to the generous support from the FIBA Foundation, the German Basketball Federation (DBB) and other dedicated partners.

On November 4, The Basketball Artists School (BAS) Foundation has official opened its newly upgraded computer lab. Situated in Katutura, Windhoek, this lab is set to transform educational opportunities for BAS students by providing essential digital literacy training, academic support, and skills development.

As a long-term partner of BAS, the FIBA Foundation has decided to donate all profits from the FIBA Open 2024, the tenth edition, to this project. This was the first time that the event served as a platform to raise funds for a Basketball For Good project. A new project will be chosen as the recipient every year.

On this occasion, Youth Leader Al-Ticous Links was invited to the European Youth Leadership Seminar and the FIBA Open to promote BAS, generating great interest from the visitors and participants.

Through strategic use of the funding, BAS invested in ten high-quality computers and established a dedicated digital learning space within its facility. This computer lab will allow students—many of whom have limited access to technology—to engage in structured learning sessions, digital skills workshops, and homework support.

The lab is integral to BAS’s holistic development approach, where sports and academics combine to empower students with the skills they need to succeed in school, future careers, and life.

Dr. Veii, Chairperson of BAS Foundation, expressed the profound impact this lab will have: “The computer lab is a game-changer for our learners. Not only will they gain valuable digital literacy, but they’ll also have a safe, supportive space to learn and grow. This wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support from our partners.”

Rachel Tjite, a Grade 12 student at Immanuel Shifidi and proud beneficiary of the Basketball Artists School (BAS), expressed her gratitude for the program’s impact on her life: "This program has provided me with the skills, opportunities, and mentorship to excel both on and off the court.

The inauguration ceremony, attended by the Honourable Minister of Sports, Youth, and National Service, Agnes Tjongarero, and DBB Vice President Joachim Spägele, underscored BAS’s vision to equip youth with 21st-century skills and encourage a future of learning and opportunity for Katutura’s young people.
