MUNICH (Germany) - FIBA Europe President Jorge Garbajosa and FIBA Executive Director Europe Kamil Novak hosted the management team of the Basketball Federation of Montenegro (KSCG) on Monday.
The visiting delegation was led by KSCG President Dragan Bokan, who was accompanied by Secretary General Darko Ivanovic and the Board member in charge of competitions, Duro Ostojic.
The two sides held talks on a wide range of current affairs in European basketball, as well as issues pertaining only to the KSCG.
Support structures and FIBA projects that assist smaller federations with player development and financial sustainability were at the top of the meeting agenda.
Other developmental topics included the growth of 3x3 in Montenegro, educational projects for coaches and referees, and women’s basketball in the Balkan region within the context of FIBA’s successful execution of its Women in Basketball strategic priority.
Meanwhile Mr. Garbajosa and Mr. Novak provided the visitors with an update on the international basketball landscape, and the structure of European club competitions.
FIBA Europe and the KSCG also discussed possible avenues to further strengthen their already close collaboration.
Despite its small population size, Montenegro has earned a reputation as one of the most competitive basketball nations in Europe in just 20 years since becoming an independent country.
The Montenegrin men’s national team mas participated in five FIBA EuroBasket tournaments and two FIBA World Cups, while the women’s team has competed in eight consecutive FIBA Women’s EuroBasket tournaments.
