FIBA delegation touches down for talks in Azerbaijan

    FIBA and the Azerbaijan Basketball Federation have been discussing the development of the sport.

    BAKU (Azerbaijan) - A delegation led by FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis has met with the Azerbaijan Basketball Federation to strengthen existing ties and support their efforts to advance the development of basketball in the country.

    The FIBA delegation met with the President of the Azerbaijan Basketball Federation, Emin Amrullayev, and a number of other colleagues from the organization for talks.

    During the meeting, the development of 3x3 basketball was one of the main priorities for discussion. Opportunities to expand and enhance activities in this area were intensively explored - something helped by Azerbaijan having made history by making the 3x3 Basketball Women’s Tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

    The parties also took time to emphasize the importance of youth development as well as the participation of Azerbaijan's professional basketball clubs in international competitions during upcoming seasons. Views were exchanged on the steps that need to be taken and how potential cooperation opportunities in this direction could be realized.

    Τhe meeting also covered the development and evolution of the Azerbaijan Basketball League (ABL). Areas considered were the securing of improvements to its structure, the enhancement of its commercial potential, the alignment of local clubs’ management and infrastructure levels to international standards, as well as strengthening the overall basketball development strategy for the country.
