The FIBA Central Board announced that the FIBA 3x3 Federation Ranking calculation will start on December 1, 2025, extending the ranking period from 12 to 24 months to provide a more consistent and representative evaluation of national team performance over a longer timeframe.
The first qualified teams for LA28 will be confirmed in December 2027, starting a thrilling race to compete against the world’s best 3x3 players in one of the world’s most iconic basketball cities.
"This decision underlines our ongoing efforts and dedication to creating a more sustainable and professional 3x3 basketball environment,” said FIBA 3x3 Managing Director Alex Sanchez. “These changes bring a more sustainable evaluation of national team performance, while also nurturing the growth for 3x3 basketball ecosystem worldwide.”
This updated ranking system will apply for the qualification process for the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028.
This latest move to strengthen the long-term sustainability of the overall 3x3 basketball ecosystem builds upon the recent introduction of the FIBA 3x3 Team Performance Support Program. This program provides crucial financial support and resources to eligible 3x3 Pro Circuit teams, demonstrating FIBA's commitment to all levels of the 3x3 competition network.
