FIBA Asia Permanent Committees meet to set the course for future

    Deliberations Focus on NFs development and enhanced coordination

    BEIRUT (Lebanon)- The week of Nov 24-28, 2025 saw a series of FIBA Asia Permanent Committees meetings taking place at Muscat, Oman setting the course of action for the future.

    The meetings began with those of Competition, Finance and Marketing & Media on Nov 26 followed by those of Medical, Persons with Disabilities, Legal and Technical a day later. The series of meetings concluded with the committees for Women, Youth and 3x3 meeting on Nov 28.

    “These meetings serve twin purposes,” said FIBA Executive Director-Asia Mr. Hagop Khajirian.

    “First of all, these act as an exercise to introspect what has been done in these respective domains are on the right track. And then based on the assessment these meetings also chart the course for the future. In some cases, we may need course correction and, in most others, we focus on enhancing our efforts,” he added.

    FIBA Asia Competitions Committee

    The Competition Committee deliberated the 2026 FIBA Asia Competitions and also discussed on the impact on the various new leagues launched by FIBA Regional Office-Asia including FIBA WASL, BCL Asia and WBL Asia. It also discussed the FIBA safeguarding toolkit and eFIBA.

    On the agenda of the Finance Committee was an update on the work progress of FIBA Asia Finance Department and review of the past performances. Budgeting of Sub-Zone events and repartition of revenues from Registration of Players was also discussed.

    The Marketing & Media Committee focussed on the key numbers in Digital platform for 2025 and reviewed FIBA Asia mission streamlining them along the FIBA pillars and priorities.

    The Medical Committee discussed the updates on prohibited substances, matters of compliance and the challenges at the Sub-Zone level. It also focussed on the recent developments in injury patterns in competitions at the Sub-Zone level. The Committee also deliberated on opportunities for enhancing coach education, particularly in recognising injuries and ensuring safe return-to-play protocols.

    FIBA Asia Youth and Women Committee

    The Legal Committee reviewed the player eligibility regulations concerning Naturalization procedures of players – both prior to and after age verification mechanism. It also called upon for the full alignment of the national federations’ regulations with that of FIBA/FIBA Asia.

    The Technical Committee deliberated on topics and issues concerning Refereeing, Eligibility & Data and also focussed on development of FIBA Licensed Statisticians in all National Federations.

    FIBA Asia Finance, Media and Marketing Committees

    On the agenda for the Women’s Committee was topics that included “Her World Her Rules” and also focussed discussion in the challenges in Women in Basketball, one of FIBA’s strategic pillars for the 2023-27 cycle.

    The 3x3 Committee discussed the role of National Federations in Asia promoting FIBA 3x3.

    The Youth Committee focussed on the challenges in implementing ongoing programs in youth development and the coordination required with the National Federations.

    FIBA
