BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The FIBA Asia Board held its fifth meeting for the 2023-2027 cycle in Singapore, on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
The meeting, chaired by FIBA Asia President Dr. K Govindaraj, was attended by FIBA President Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al Thani, FIBA Secretary General Mr. Andreas Zagklis (via video conference), and FIBA Executive Director Asia, Mr. Hagop Khajirian.
The meeting took stock of the gains made in the year 2025 where the Regional Office in Asia successfully delivered key FIBA objectives including the successful conduct of the two flagship continental events – FIBA Asia Cup 2025 in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) and FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2025 in Shenzhen (China) along with the two continental youth events – FIBA U16 Asia Cup 2025 in Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia) and FIBA U16 Women’s Asia Cup 2025 in Seremban (Malaysia).
The Board also noted the rapid progress made in the impact of the FIBA owned leagues in the continent – FIBA WASL, BCL Asia-East, BCL Asia and WBL Asia.
The FIBA Asia Board was updated on the new initiatives to be taken up by the Regional Office in terms of coaching development and talent identification and mentoring of players. These two novel initiatives – FIBA Asia Coaching Course (FACC) and Talent Identification and Mentoring System (TIMS) – are set to be launched in 2027.
The Board was also presented with the activity reports and programs carried out by the departments in the Regional Office.
