MIES (Switzerland) – FIBA will host a test event for Automated Video Solutions (AVS) in Nyon, Switzerland, designed to independently assess system performance under game-representative conditions.
Scheduled for December 14 to 16, the event is being organized with support from the City of Nyon and the Lausanne Olympic Capital Foundation, underscoring their commitment to excellence in sporting infrastructure and the advancement of sport through innovation.
With its first-class facilities and location close to FIBA's headquarters, the stunning and newly constructed Colovray Sports Complex on the shores of Lake Geneva will provide the perfect setting for the debut test event.
Led by the FIBA Equipment & Venue Centre, one of the main purposes of the test event is to bring AVS systems into the well-established FIBA Approval Program. The new AVS category is designed to establish a common technical framework for evaluating these systems, supporting greater consistency, reliability and transparency across the market. It will cover both live or near-live applications and solutions focused on automated capture for post-game analysis.
Automated Video Solutions use advanced camera and software technologies to capture, produce and analyze basketball game footage. This reduces the need for manual video production and makes these capabilities more accessible and cost-effective.
AVS systems support a range of applications, including live streaming, content production, coaching and tactical analysis, player performance development and officiating workflows. They also help clubs, leagues and National Federations access high-quality video content and performance insights.
During the test event, AVS systems will all undergo rigorous assessments by FIBA Accredited Test Institutes under game-representative conditions.
Practical on-site testing will assess system performance and reliability against standardized technical requirements, including ball tracking, court coverage, camera movement, image stitching, video latency, scoreboard detection and overall system uptime.
After testing has concluded and the results have been analyzed, participants will receive a detailed technical report with objective performance results and benchmarking information to support product development.
Successful AVS systems will have the opportunity to become FIBA Approved, gaining independent recognition of their technical performance and enhanced visibility across the basketball ecosystem.
For clubs, leagues and National Federations, FIBA Approval will provide an independent reference when selecting technologies, helping them identify solutions that have been assessed against recognized technical and operational requirements.
