The recent FIBA 3x3 World Cup in Mongolia marked a new high for 3x3 basketball’s global reach and digital impact

The recent FIBA 3x3 World Cup in Mongolia marked a new high for 3x3 basketball’s global reach and digital impact, setting fresh benchmarks across all major social and broadcast metrics.

Over the course of the event, FIBA 3x3’s digital channels amassed an impressive 253 million video views — a significant increase from 160 million in 2023. Total impressions also climbed to 257 million, building further on last year’s strong momentum. Engagement remained substantial with more than 9 million interactions, demonstrating the continued appetite for 3x3’s fast-paced, urban sport entertainment.

“We’re incredibly proud of the record-breaking online fan engagement at what was an incredibly successful World Cup in Mongolia,” said FIBA 3x3 Managing Director Alex Sanchez. “This would not be possible without the unmissable action from the players on the half-court, the thousands of passionate fans who showed up, and our world-class hosts who put on an unforgettable first-ever FIBA 3x3 World Cup in Mongolia.”

In addition to record-breaking numbers on core platforms, FIBA 3x3 added over 200,000 new followers across its social media accounts in the build-up to, during, and after the event. This underlines the sport’s ability to attract fresh audiences and convert event moments into lasting connections with fans worldwide.

This year’s FIBA 3x3 World Cup also made significant gains on traditional broadcast. A record 26 broadcast partners — up from 23 at the previous edition — delivered the event to over 200 territories around the globe, a significant expansion from the 160 reached before. This extended TV reach ensured that more fans than ever could witness the spectacular on-court action from Mongolia’s historic Sukhbaatar Square. The FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2025 in Ulaanbaatar was a resounding success, with sell-out crowds during the elimination rounds and over 50,000 spectators throughout the week. Partners and sponsors, including Coca-Cola Mongolia, hosted daily activations with fully attended booths.

3x3 basketball proved once again that success is within reach for any country, including non-traditional basketball powerhouses. The medals attained by the Netherlands women's team and Mongolia women's team are especially significant, demonstrating the result of long-term planning and dedicated effort

With these milestones, 3x3 basketball continues to prove its status as the most thrilling urban team sport in the world, and one of the most engaging Olympic sports. Following Mongolia’s hosting of Asia’s biggest 3x3 event, FIBA this week announced that Mongolia will host the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2027, from March 31 to April 4, in the heart of the capital, Ulaanbaatar.

The next FIBA 3x3 World Cup will be held in Warsaw, Poland from June 1 to 7, 2026.
